After years of working closely within the disability community, one thing became clear: there are countless individuals and families doing everything they can to live full, beautiful lives—but are often limited by the cost of essential equipment not covered by insurance.
The calls come often.
Requests for things that many take for granted—devices that allow someone to go to the beach, travel with their family, or simply move through life with more ease.
And more often than not, the answer is:
it’s just not covered.
That reality stayed with me.
And it became the foundation of Winged Meadow Co.

Overview
The Wings to Wander Program exists to help individuals and families access adaptive equipment that is not covered by insurance but significantly improves quality of life.
These guidelines are designed to ensure a fair, thoughtful, and transparent process for all applicants.
Who Is Eligible to Apply
Applications are open to:
- Individuals living with a disability
- Parents or guardians applying on behalf of a child
- Caregivers applying on behalf of a loved one
Applicants must:
- Reside in the United States
- Demonstrate financial need
- Be seeking equipment not fully covered by insurance or other funding sources
Types of Requests We Consider
We prioritize equipment that enhances:
- Mobility and independence
- Access to travel and outdoor experiences
- Daily quality of life
- Family connection and participation
Examples include (but are not limited to):
- Track chairs
- Adaptive strollers or wheelchairs
- Medical or in-home care equipment
- Travel-related accessibility devices
What We Do Not Currently Fund
To ensure sustainability, we are not able to fund:
- Requests already fully covered by insurance or grants
- Non-equipment-related expenses (medical bills, rent, utilities, etc.)
- Emergency or time-sensitive requests requiring immediate funding
- Experimental or non-medically recommended devices
Application Requirements
To be considered, applicants must:
- Complete the full application form
- Provide a clear description of the requested device
- Share how the equipment will improve daily life or experiences
- Submit any available supporting details (quotes, links, or estimates encouraged)
Optional but encouraged:
- Photos or videos
- Personal story or background
Selection Criteria
Applications are reviewed based on:
- Impact: How significantly the device will improve quality of life
- Need: Financial barriers and lack of alternative funding
- Feasibility: Alignment with available program funds
- Clarity: Thoughtfulness and completeness of the application
Selection Process & Timeline
- Applications are reviewed on a rolling or quarterly basis
- Due to volume, we may not be able to respond to every applicant individually
- Selected applicants will be contacted directly for next steps
- Additional documentation or verification may be requested
Funding Details
- Funding amounts may vary and may cover full or partial costs
- In some cases, payments may be made directly to vendors or suppliers
- Timing of funding depends on available program funds
Story Sharing & Consent
As part of the Wings to Wander Program:
- Selected recipients may be invited to share their story
- With permission, stories, photos, or updates may be used to:
